If you are interested in helping fix up the old control tower for our elementary school field trips come to the tower between 9 AM and 2 PM Saturday March 12th.  The tower is located just south of the old airline terminal on Dennis Weaver Dr.  We need volunteers to help paint and clean the steps and windows.  It's a great place to work if you like to watch airplanes.  Any help would be appreciated.  Call 417-540-2657 for more information.

The museum is now an Aerospace Education Member of the Civil Air Patrol.  Thanks go to Ernie Trumbly for telling us about the educational materials that the CAP has made available to educators.  I have just received their package of booklets and they are great.  This material will give us a great start to our STEM educational mission.  If you are interested in being a part of our program please let me know and I will get you on the team.

We are going to try to make better use of the website calendar from now on.  Please check it often to see what is happening.  Also, if you have any aerospace events you would like to put on the schedule please let us know by museum email and we will post them.

We need a cowling constructed for the bomber.  We were using a loaner for a long time and now it needs to go back to the owner.  I'm thinking a fiberglass unit or maybe a combination of sheet metal and fiberglass.  Any thoughts? Need it for the school field trips.  Also, the flight controls need a rebuild.  we have had around 2000 young pilots fly that thing all over the world ( in their imagination ) and it has taken a few hits if you know what I mean.

Good progress has been made towards getting some items in the exhibit hall.  Darlene Coit is enlarging some past airshow photos for one of our larger wall exhibits.  I have been working with someone to put the electronics together for our interactive video display.  We will soon schedule a work session at the hall to start laying out the exhibit items on the walls.  These will probably be evening and Saturday sessions for the most part so as many people as possible can participate in the construction.  We would like to have it mostly finished by the start of the school trips and completely finished by the May 7th 5K on the Runway.  Call or email to the museum for more information.  417-540-2657.

Thursday February 11th we will have our first work session to improve the old control tower at the Joplin Regional Airport for better use in our school field trips.  We plan to take out the old sink and some of the consoles so we can have more room for the students. In doing so we will improve the viewing for some of the smaller kids.  We had some water damage to the tower last month so we have some repair and cleanup to do also.  Time for the work session is from 9 AM until around 3 PM or until we get tired. Come out for as long as you want. No experience required.   You must be able to climb a few stairs however if you want to work at the top but we also have some work on the ground floor.  Call 417-540-2657 for more information.
